Logistics in nuclear research
IFL's traditional expertise in the fields of conveyor technology and logistics systems has also been applied to the maintenance processes of fusion facilities for several years. In this context, we at LOAD are working on several fusion research projects. These projects deal with issues relating to the remote handling and transportation of activated materials from a design perspective as well as their usability under sometimes extreme operating conditions.
In order to maximize plant availability and thus system efficiency, we optimize the corresponding maintenance processes by means of modelling and simulation using logistics methods. This includes determining the layout, transport routes and use of resources in the most suitable way. These methods are used, for example, in the planning of the large multinational fusion projects IFMIF, DONES, ITER and DEMO.
